'No Confidence' against Conrad Sangma government

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh, on Tuesday, admitted a 'No Confidence Motion' moved by the Opposition Congress against the government of Conrad Sangma. The matter has been listed at 11 am on Wednesday.

Soon after the Question Hour, Lyngdoh Informed the House that the Leader of Opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma along with 10 other Congress legislators, expressing want of confidence in the Council of Ministers led by Conrad Sangma.

"...the Council of Ministers led by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has failed to address multiple and critical issues affecting the wellbeing of the people as a whole," stated the letter signed by the Opposition Congress legislators.

"The government has failed to protect the interest of the State as a whole and failed on all fronts," the letter added.

Meanwhile chairing a meeting of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that a whip has been issued to all the members of the ruling alliance to be present when the 'No-Confidence Motion' is taken up.

Referring to some of the Ministers who had tested COVID-19 positive have tested negative a week back, Sangma said, "The thing is that some of our Ministers had tested positive; but one or two of them tested negative a week back. But as they were feeling weak so they were not reporting for the Assembly session. But tomorrow being an important day, all of them have been asked to attend the session. Despite their health condition, they will be attending the session tomorrow," he added.
