SHILLONG: All the Jails in Meghalya are free from the coronavirus as of now. Confirming this, the Inspector General of Prison, MH Kharkrang told The Sentinel on Saturday that there has been no case of COVID in the State jails; and all the new inmates are being sent into the quarantine cell. "We are clear with the Standard Operating Proceedures (SOPs) where the new entrants are not allowed to move beyond the prescribed enclosure," stated Kharkrang.

Furthermore as part of the compliance,the Prison department has released around 200 undertrial prisoners under bail bond, the Inspector General of Prisons informed, adding that routine medical procedures are being carried in all the prisons across the State.
