No rift in MPCC: Meghalaya AICC in-charge Manish Chatrath

SHILLONG: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Meghalaya, Manish Chatrath on Monday said that there are no rumblings in the party.

Speaking to reporters after his meeting with party legislators including leader of opposition ad former Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma and Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president, Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh, Chatrath said, "There are no rumblings in the Congress as of now and coming and going is part of politics. Some people go, some people join so it is an ongoing process. I don't see it as a very big issue."

When asked if the Congress was losing ground in the State after being in the Opposition since the 2018 Assembly elections, the AICC in-charge Meghalaya said, "The government of the day has to function for five years; let them do so. And when the election comes, let the people decide," said Chatrath.

He pointed out, "The oldest political party in the country — the Congress will always be there," he added.

Meanwhile, the AICC in-charge also said that there was no discussion on the post of new MPCC president even as he added the incumbent Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh has not requested to be relieved from his post. However, there are reports that the present MPCC chief wants to step down from the post even as Nongthymmai legislator Charles Pyngrope has expressed his keenness to take over.
