NPP Candidate Agatha Sangma files nomination for Tura Lok Sabha seat

Shillong: Agatha Sangma of NPP, who is also a common candidate of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), filed her nomination papers before the Returning Officer Ram Singh on Friday. She will be contesting from the Tura Parliamentary constituency. This will be her third that she decided to contest the seat, the first being in 2009.

The Tura seat is expected to witness a tough contest with the present leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma being nominated as a candidate of the Congress. Mukul will file his nomination papers on Monday.

Meanwhile, NPP candidate Ferlin CA Sangma and UDP candidate Sayeedullah Nongrum filed their nominations for the Selsella Assembly bypolls on Friday. The Congress nominee, Elina Marak, is expected to complete the formalities on Monday. The bypolls to the Selsella Assembly segment was necessitated due to the death of the sitting MLA Clement Marak. The Assembly bypolls and Parliamentary polls will be conducted simultaneously in the State.
