GUWAHATI: Rakkam A Sangma, the Education Minister of Meghalaya, announced on Thursday that the National Testing Authority (NTA) has decided to postpone the CUET examination for students from the northeastern state who have been assigned to other sites throughout the country.

On Friday, the Common Universities Entrance Test (CUET) will be administered.

The Union Ministry of Education, a day after Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma wrote to the Centre, has directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to reschedule the CUET entrance test for Meghalaya students who were allotted centres outside the state, said state Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on June 15.

Many state students were slated to take the CUET exam in Jharkhand, West Bengal, Assam, and other regions of the country.

The rescheduled exam date for Meghalaya students will be declared as soon as the state administration sends the list of impacted students to the NTA, he said.

Students on the list would be given another chance to take the exam on a rescheduled date, he said, adding that data is currently being collected and the list will be submitted to the NTA as soon as possible.

He stated that the change occurred after Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma addressed a letter to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan pleading with him to intervene in the matter and issue appropriate orders to the NTA to make alternate arrangements for the affected kids.

He informed Pradhan that Meghalaya kids had been assigned exams.

He claimed that the placement of CUET exam sites for Meghalaya students in remote locations has caused major annoyance and logistical issues for the students and their parents.

According to Sangma, CUET admit cards were only provided on Wednesday, barely two days before the scheduled exam on Friday.

Meghalaya had previously proposed that the NTA establish CUET facilities in each of the state's 12 districts.
