One more arrested in Agnes Kharshiing attack case

Shillong: East Jaintia Hills police arrested another person on Friday morning in the murderous attack on women rights and RTI activist Agnes Kharshiing and her colleague Amita Sangma on November 8. The person identified as Showmewell B Kyndait (38) of Shangpung village was arrested from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.

According to police, he was evading arrest after the assault on the duo two weeks back. “After interrogation he was police said. This is the sixth arrest by police.

On November 21, one Skhemlang Dkhar (44) of Iongkaluh village of the East Jaintia Hills district was picked up by the police from Mooralong, Jowai. Earlier, a day after the attack on the duo, police arrested two persons Elphon Dkhar and Meklison Siangshai, from Kongong area.

A few days later, police arrested one Hamlen Rymbai (39) of Wapungskur village. On November 18 police arrested one Charming Siangshai of Wapungskur.

Earlier, a woman was also detained but was released after questioning due to lack of evidence.

Meanwhile, Agnes who is undergoing treatment at NEIGRIHMS is still under Neuro Surgery Ward observation and physiotherapist care. Amita, another activist who was also assaulted along with Agnes, is also recovering slowly. The activists continue to have visitors from various organisations as well as the public.
