Opposition Congress submits ‘No-Confidence Motion’ in GHADC

A CORRESPONDENT

SHILLONG: The Opposition Congress in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) on Monday submitted a ‘No-Confidence Motion’ against the Dipul R Marak-led Executive Committee (EC) of the National People’s Party (NPP).

The GHADC Chairman has admitted the ‘No-Confidence Motion’ and announced in the House on Monday that it will be taken up on November 27.

On the grounds pointed out by the Opposition for bringing in the ‘No-Confidence Motion’ was the alleged “mismanagement of the District Council’s funds”, said sources.

The other ground for bringing the ‘No-Confidence Motion’ is an alleged failure of GHADC to pay the monthly salaries to employees of the District Council for more than 20 months and the long-pending bills to the contractors and the suppliers.

The Opposition also said that the EC totally failed to protect and preserve land and the properties of district councils.

Another reason mentioned by the Opposition Congress for tabling the ‘No-Confidence Motion’ was the alleged total failure of the GHADC to protect the interest of the indigenous people and also “failure to adopt strategies, programme and policies to fulfil the mandate of the Constitution”.

It may also be mentioned that the Deputy Chairman of the GHADC, Mettrinson G Momin on Monday resigned from his post. He is one of the 10 members to sign the ‘No-Confidence Motion’.
