Orientation for coal mine owners in Meghalaya

Shillong: Subsequent to numerous reports on illegal coal extraction and transhipment in the State, the Directorate of Mineral Resources has asked the coal mine owners of East Jaintia Hills district to be part of the orientation programme that will straighten all the anomalies related to the issue. The meeting is schedule to be held at Khliehtiat on February 17.

The notification issued on Friday stated: “In pursuance to the order of the Supreme Court dated 3rd July 2019, to facilitate systematic, safe, scientific and planned utilization of mineral resources and to streamline mineral based development of the State, the Office of the Directorate of Mineral Resources, Government of Meghalaya, will be conducting an orientation and sensitization programme for all the mine owners in granting of prospecting licence, preparation of geological report and feasibility study, granting of mining lease under scientific coal mining plan as per the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act 1957 and the Mineral Concession Rules, 1960.”
