WILLIAMNAGAR: The East Garo Hills District Magistrate, Swapnil Tembe has issued an order for imposing penalty for violating the provisions of the 'Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19 Regulations-2020'. The order has been given following the instructions received from the Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Department.

The order said that a fine of Rs 500 for the first offence and Rs 1000 for subsequent offences will be imposed on any person, institution or organization if found violating the mandatory regulations of not wearing the face-mask or face-cover in public places and work places. All persons in-charge of public places, work-places and transport are to ensure physical distancing of two meters. Spitting and use of smokeless tobacco in public places are strictly prohibited.

The order also said that the District Magistrate, Executive Magistrates and the officers of the rank of Sub-Inspector and above of the Meghalaya Police have already been notified to impose penalty on the violators, stated a release.
