SHILLONG: The Sohra Zonal Committee Constituency of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) on Saturday held a meeting at Mawkdok in the presence of party leader and MLA from Mawkynrew constituency Banteidor Lyngdoh. The meeting was held to mobilize the party workers of PDF under Sohra Zonal Committee Constituency to garner support for the common candidate of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Jemino Mawthoh for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Shillong Parliamentary constituency scheduled for April 11.
Addressing the party workers, Lyngdoh said, “Each election is different — be it the Assembly polls or the MDC polls. In the past two elections, most of the regional parties in Meghalaya were competing with one another to win as many seats as possible. However this time around, we are united under the MDA and have also fielded a common candidate for the LS polls.”
Stating that some party workers may be confused as the PDF is supporting a UDP candidate for the LS polls, he said, “The UDP candidate is a common candidate of the MDA. All the four regional parties within the alliance including the PDF, the HSPDP, the NPP and the UDP have agreed to field one common candidate. It reflects our unity.”
He clarified to the party workers that another reason for supporting the common candidate from the Shillong Parliamentary constituency is “to further strengthen the government”.
