Police registers case against mob lynching in Shillong

Shillong: The Ri- Bhoi Police has registered a suo motto case against the people involved in the mob lynching of an alleged rapist a few days ago. The alleged rapist is in a critical condition and is presently in the intensive care unit after the mob lynched at him for his alleged misadventure with a minor girl.

With videos going viral, the Superintend of Police ( SP) Ri Bhoi District S. Thamar refused to divulged details (due to protocol) about the findings of the medical reports of the alleged victim, even as he said that the case will be taken vigourously to established the case. An Investigating officer has been appointed to look at the case.

Thamar was, however, quick to state that the sort of public lynching is not in sync with the law. “ We have taken cognizance, took suo motto action by registering cases”, stated Thamar. Asked on how many of those visible in the social media have been arrested, the answer is we are looking at it.
