SHILLONG: The city police are still continuing with the barricade and deployment of forces within the Punjabi line in Shillong. Six months have passed since the turmoil cropped up that had thrown half of Shillong out of gear. However, the East Khasi Hills District administration still feels that they cannot leave anything to chances.

“Our intelligence inputs prompt us to continue with the deployment of forces and to barricade the area as a precautionary measure,” stated the SP of East Khasi Hills District, Davies N Marak during an interaction with The Sentinel on Thursday. He added, “Unless the issue is resolved at the higher level, the police will have to be vigilant to prevent any re-escalation of the law-and-order situation in the city.

Sources informed that there was an incident in the recent past that could have added further fuel. But the SP refused to comment, except for reiterating that the police will never allow the sort of incident to recur in the city.
