Programme on ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ held in Shillong

SHILLONG: The Bureau of Outreach and Communication (BOC), Regional Office, Meghalaya, and Tripura Region, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India organized a Special Outreach Programme on BetiBachaoBetiPadhao at JNS Complex, Polo Ground, Shillong.

The main objective of this special outreach programme is to disseminate information to the general public on BetiBachaoBetiPadhao.

Munish Singh, Director, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Shillong, in his address said that such programmes, organized by BOC, will help to reach out to the majority of people.

He also appreciated the initiative of the Bureau of Outreach and Communication for organizing this Special Outreach Programme to sharpen the knowledge of the masses that meet the challenges of the fast changing times.

He further added that the rest of country should learn from the Khasi community that gives respect to the woman.

Gary Nengnong, resource person in the programme gave a talk on the need to promote girls in sports and that opportunities for girls to excel in different field should be increased.

He also stress on the importance of sending every girl to school while speaking on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme Dr Engam Pame, Director, BOC, Shillong impressed upon the audience that the main initiatives of Bureau Of Outreach and Communication is to create well informed communities keeping in view of the national objectives of the Government to reach the last man in the last mile.

He further emphasized that besides information dissemination, the activities of BOC also include social mobilization for increasing participatory advocacy.

He also spoke on the theme BetiBachaoBetiPadhao.

A play on LokhiParhegi was also presented on the occasion by Sangeeta Chakraborty, Satish Kumar and Roshni Kumari.

The function was also attended by representatives from All India Radio, Doordarshan Kendra, DAVP, PIB, NGOs, stakeholders and students.
