Shillong: The Pynursla civil-sub division in East Khasi Hills which was inaugurated in February 2017 is still non-functional according to a pressure group.
Concern over the matter, the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), Riwar Mihngi Circle, met Deputy Chief Minister and local MLA Prestone Tynsong at his office chamber on Wednesday.
“Since the civil sub-division was inaugurated till date it is yet to be of any benefit to the people of the area,” Edmund Khongngai told media persons after meeting Tynsong.
Khongngai also said that even officers and staffs in the various departments of the civil sub-division have not been appointed yet.
“We the HYC want the government to construct a building to house the office of the civil sub-division at Pynursla for the benefit of the people of Pynursla,” the HYC added.
The Pynursla Civil Sub-Division was inaugurated on February 15, 2017, by the then Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma.
Meanwhile, the HYC has also rejected the proposal by a certain group to name a proposed district as South East Khasi Hills district with its headquarters at Sohra.
The HYC Riwar Mihngi Circle also said that they do not want to be part of the new district even as the pressure group said that it does not oppose the idea of the people of Sohra for demanding the district.
The HYC pointed out that it would not be geographically feasible to tag Pynursla with the proposed district. “However, we demand that they should not name the proposed district as South East Khasi Hills,” the HYC said.
Recently, the South East Khasi District Demand Forum held a public meeting at Sohra to discuss on the demand for creation of South East Khasi Hills District. During the public meeting at Sohra, Shella legislator and state Assembly speaker Dr. Donkupar Roy had assured that the creation of a South East Khasi District will materialize within this year or in 2019.
