Rally against gender-based violence at work organized in Shillong

SHILLONG: The North East Network, Meghalaya in collaboration with Seng Kynthei Shnong Mawngap Lumparing organized a peaceful rally in observance of the 16 Days Activism against Gender Based Violence with the theme “End Gender-Based Violence in the World of Work” which was held in Mawngap , Mawphlang Block, East Khasi Hills District on Monday.

It aimed at creating mass awareness on the need to build safe spaces for women both at the public and private sphere. The Chief Guest for the rally was B. Ranee, (MCS), Block Development Officer of Mawphlang Block, East Khasi Hills. In her speech, she appreciated the initiatives of women groups’ lumparing and North East Network to address and redress issues face by women both in private and public sphere. The rally concluded with a street play by the students of MSW 3rd Semester, Martin Luther Christian University on the same.

Approximately 300 people participated in the rally including women groups from 6 localities of Mawngap Pyllun, Youth Groups from Mawngap Pyllun and Mawphlang as well as 8 Educational institutions in the vicinity of Mawngap area.
