Renowned Khasi folk singer Kerios Wahlang passed away in Shillong

SHILLONG: Renowned Khasi folk singer Kerios Wahlang passed away at around 3 am on Saturday. He was 94.

Late Wahlang is survived by four children -- two sons and two daughters and 16 grandchildren. One of sons -- Kynsai Manik Syiem, who used to perform with him, breathed his last in 1998.

The cremation ceremony will be performed at Mawngap crematorium on Tuesday.

Kerios Wahlang's passion for music was evident since his childhood days. Before taking to rendering folk songs seriously, he was involved with the theatre at Mawngap. Later he learnt to play the musical instrument 'duitara' from a veteran musician of All India Radio (AIR).

He composed many folk songs. Manuscripts of around 60 songs have been found. He performed at several platforms in the country.
