SHILLONG: Irate over the "deceitful promise of the Meghalaya Government" who had earlier stated that the Dwarksuid Bridge would be completed soon, members of the Ri Bhoi Students Union (RBSU) has slammed the State government on its false promises.

The RBSU made the comment after witnessing that the construction work on the temporary steel bridge undertaken by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is still underway with the major portion of the bridge work yet to be completed.

RBSU working president Amberlight Masharing has expressed displeasure over the promise of the Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, after visiting the construction site on December 15, 2020. He had also assured the public that the bridge would be completed and dedicated within January 15, 2021.

"This is one of the major bridges along the Shillong Bypass. It connects Meghalaya with other States. But because of the detection of some cracks on the bridge, it was decided that the temporary steel bridge will be built, and the work was handed over to the BRO to complete the construction," said Masharing.

The Ri Bhoi Students Union has put forth their demands to the State government and the Transport department to take immediate measures for completion of the Dwarksuid Bridge.
