Rs 2.06 Crore Seized From A Vehicle At Khlieh Lewduh, Shillong

SHILLONG: The police last night recovered cash worth Rs 2.06 crore from a vehicle at Khlieh Iewduh, Shillong.

This came after the police on receiving specific information that some persons were travelling from Guwahati to Shillong and likely carrying some contraband substance. Acting on the information, a team of the Special Cell and Cantonment Beat House was deployed to intercept the vehicle.

The team noticed the vehicle going towards Garikhana. The police followed the vehicle and saw it parked near Khlieh Iewduh. The team searched the vehicle and found some packets wrapped with newspaper. On enquiry, the driver of the vehicle informed that there was cash in the packets. The person and vehicle were brought to the SP’s Office and on further interrogation, the driver revealed that he was only a courier and carrying the packets for a lady from Laban.

Later, Income Tax officers came and opened the packets. A sum of Rs 2.06 crore was found inside the packets. The police suspects that this amount was meant for payment in a gold or drug racket.
