SHILLONG: BJP MLA from South Shillong Sanbor Shullai said that despite the blazing flames which engulfed the century old Church – Church of God – at Qualapatty on November 17, the Bible was partially damaged and most of the content was not damaged by the fire.

The MLA made the statement in front of the Pastor in-charge of Church of God, AC Moore on Tuesday while also donating a Rs 1, 01, 000 lakh for the restoration of the church.

“It is a miracle that even as the intense flames which had engulfed the church for more than two hours, the Bible managed to remain unscathed,” Sanbor said while speaking at a short gathering next to the church building.

He said that in such times, there is a need for unity and people should come together as one.

Further the MLA said, “On behalf of BJP South Shillong, we give our heartfelt sympathy for this tragic loss which took place on November 17, on the century old Church,” he said.

“This gutted church which cater to the need and belief of several indigenous worshippers since more than 100 years will always be remembered in the hearts and minds of the people living in Meghalaya,” he said.

He said the noble service rendered by this church to all the people irrespective of caste and creed will remain in the hearts of the people forever.

“Through this humble contribution from our part as a sort of help to enable the congregation to build a new church which will look far better than the old Church through the grace of God Almighty,” Shullai said.
