Sangma asked to  vacate Good Wood

SHILLONG, June 25: Former Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has been asked to vacate his official residence, Good Wood bungalow. Now he has been allotted Sherwood Bungalow, the official residence formerly occupied by veteran legislator Dr DD Lapang.

Recently, the General Administration Department (GAD) allotted the Sherwood Bungalow to Dr Sangma after, Dr Lapang vacated his official residence on June 19. “Kindly make necessary arrangement to take over and occupy the said bungalow at the earliest,” the GAD said in the allotment letter.

The Good Wood Bungalow, an official residence of the state’s Chief Minister located at Polo, had cost the State exchequer over Rs 10 crore.

It has the renovated old Assam-type building (Good Wood 1) and the new annexed building (Good Wood 2). The existing Assam-type structure was renovated with more than Rs 1 crore. With more than 30 rooms, Good Wood bungalow 1 and 2, have become the costliest official residence of any Chief Minister in the State so far.

While the basement of the building, including a garage (332 square metre) has seven rooms, the ground floor (566.2 square metre) has 14 rooms including the lobby and the corridors. The first floor (361.40 square metre) has 12 rooms. The original estimate of the bungalow was Rs 2.73 crore but with the addition of new works, the cost was revised over Rs 10 crore.
