‘Saubhagya benefits not reaching five villages’: MLA SK Sunn

SHILLONG: Independent MLA from Mawphlang SK Sunn on Friday has written a letter to S Diengdoh, Director (Distribution) MePDCL over the non-implementation of Saubhagya scheme in five villages in East Khasi Hills district.

In the letter to Diengdoh, the Mawphlang MLA said that the Rangbah Shnongs (traditional heads) of Nongthymmai Neng, Phanniewlah Rum, Phanniewlah Neng, Nongthymmai Rum and Mawpynhong had informed him that the Saubhagya scheme is yet to be implemented in their villages.

The Rangbah Shnongs had urged the Mawphlang MLA to enquire from the authority concerned as why the villages falling under Lyngiong Lyngdohship and under his constituency are deprived of the benefits of the scheme.

According to Sunn, as per the website of the Rural Electrification Corporation, the physical progress of the Saubhagya scheme in respect of rural component in the State are – total households in the State (Rural) – 5, 61, 931, households electrified till October 10, 2017 – 3,65,731, subsequent progress till date – 1, 96,182 and total achievement – 1,96,182 which means there are no unelectrified houses in the State.

“As it appears the balance of un-electrified households is Nil. May I, therefore request you to kindly clarify the factual status of implementation of Saubhagya in the five mentioned villages,” Sunn said.

Sunn irked by road condition: Independent MLA from Mawphlang SK Sunn on Friday has written a letter to Secretary PWD (Roads and Buildings), PR Marwein on the dilapidated condition of the Sohiong – Mawkneng – Nongspung Road.

In the letter, Sunn said that on November 3, he had gone to Nongspung village under Mawphlang constituency to meet the relatives of two persons who had died.

In the letter, the MLA said that it took him only a few minutes from Mawngap to reach Sohiong village as the road condition is very good.

“It however took me more than 85 minutes to reach Nongspung village from Sohiong via Mawkneng,” he said.

He also said that he could not imagine the extreme difficulties the people of the area have to overcome to travel to Shillong for their daily needs.
