Section 144 clamped in East Garo Hills due to coronavirus outbreak

WILLIAMNAGAR: In view of the prevailing situation concerning coronavirus, East Garo Hills District Magistrate Swapnil Tembe had promulgated Section 144 of the CrPC prohibiting the operations of all markets, commercial and financial establishments, all forms of public transport and assembly of five or more persons in public places, stated a press release.

This order, however, exempted the security forces, medical teams on duty, pharmacies, health services, MeCL, PHE, PWD, Fire and Emergency services, Food and Civil Supplies, Municipal Board, posts and telegraph, banks, ATMs and the media. The order also said that the drivers and attendants of the vehicles will be subjected to medical screening as laid down in the protocols.

The order will remain in force till 5 am of March 26.

Meanwhile, the administration has also activated the emergency control room-cum-emergency operation centre in the office of the Deputy Commissioner of East Garo Hills in Williamnagar under Section 30 (1) Chapter V of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 for planning, coordinating and implementing disaster management due to outbreak of coronavirus in the country.

The notification issued in this regard by the Deputy Commissioner and Chairman, DDMA, said that the Deputy Commissioner will be the Responsible Officer (RO) whose contact number is 8527345879 who may be contacted at tembe.swapnil@gmail.com anddc.williamnagar@gmail.com.
