SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Cabinet on Monday approved the shifting of the administrative building of the Government to New Shillong Township near Mawpdang-Mawkhanu.

"As we are aware that the Government is acquiring about 807 acres of land in the new township, so it is fit that taking into consideration the congestion in Shillong and also expanding the new township, that the administrative building will be shifted to the new site," Home Minister Lakhmen Rymbui told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

Rymbui informed that the foundation stone will be laid on January 21.

He also informed that the State Cabinet, taking into consideration the need for the early childhood development for the holistic development of children, the Cabinet also approved the Early Childhood Development Mission.

The Minister said that under this Mission there will be a convergence of the Social Welfare, Health and Education Departments along with all stakeholders so that the children will get the benefit of health care and education in the State.

Moreover, Rymbui also informed that there are more than 1500 villages which are not served by the ICDS or Anganwadi programme. However, with the implementation of this Mission, the Government hopes that it will be able to cater to the need of the children who need care at an early stage.
