Shillong: Alleged criminal elements indulging in extortion from the Meghalaya-based tourist taxis at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati came out into the fore on Wednesday when the members of the Hyyniewtrep Tourist Taxi Association (HTTA) spilled the beans. Talking to newspersons in Shillong on Wednesday, the leaders of the HTTA revealed the trauma that they face in the hands of the dalals inside the airport premises

From their disclosure, it’s simply not about the commission, but also on the types of vehicles which can ferry passengers. The taxi drivers stated “Of late they are charging Rs 600 for every car that enter the airport premises and non-payment means that you cannot take passengers”. The association said that the matter has even been placed before Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta. The HTTA feels that there is a sort of syndicate operated by the locals. Asked on the intervention of the tourist taxis of Asom, the Meghalaya-based tourists taxi drivers felt that their reach is limited.
