Shillong Commerce College organizes talk on Gandhian philosophy

SHILLONG: Shillong Commerce College commemorated the 149th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by organizing a talk on "Gandhian Philosophy in today's World".

The program started at 10 am and was chaired by Prof. D. Sawkmie from the Department of Economics. The Principal, Prof JB Massar delivered the welcome address.

The Resource person Prof Prasenjit Biswas from the Department of Philosophy, NEHU in his speech spoke at length about the philosophy of Gandhi and its relevance in the present world. Gandhi was a great believer in dialogue and abhorred coercive politics.

He believed in Ahimsa (Non- Violence) and Satyagraha (Quest for Truth). These are central to Gandhi's Values of Life and Philosophy. Prof. Biswas spoke about Gandhi's "Soul Force" as the most important force of life as it is totally opposed to Brute force.

Gandhi firmly believed that there must be harmony between the Human Being and the World around him and believed in establishing a certain kind of cooperation instead of competition.

Gandhi wanted to inculcate the value of selflessness in each one of us. Gandhi's philosophy was based on human values and he practiced the politics of morality.
