SHILLONG: Congress MP from Shillong Vincent H Pala stated that United Democratic Party (UDP) State president Dr Donkupar Roy is toeing the same line as that of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

It may be mentioned here that Roy had accused the Pala of not raising his voice against the Central Government in Parliament over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. The UDP leader also stated that the regional parties in Meghalaya cannot trust national parties like the Congress and BJP.

Speaking to The Sentinel, Pala, “The UDP president is speaking on the same line as the BJP when we (Congress) are opposing the bill in Parliament. Our leader in the house had asked the BJP to first discuss the bill with various stakeholders to find out the reason why the people are opposing this bill.”

He said despite this, the BJP bulldozed the suggestions of the Opposition as they have the numbers in Lok Sabha.

On the statement made by Dr Roy that the regional party in the State is losing trust in the national parties, he said, “By word of mouth its always easy to say such things but has he forgotten that his party (UDP) is in a coalition MDA government where there are two BJP MLAs and one of them is a Cabinet Minister.”

He also pointed that even the National Peoples’ Party (NPP) is a national party led by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and the UDP is also in alliance with this party in the State Government.
