SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday held a meeting with officials of various government departments, financial institutions, educational institutions, entrepreneurs and event organizers to chalk out plans to host the Salon International de l’alimentation 2019 (SIAL) in Shillong.
The SIAL is a trade fair held every two years, which specializes in the food processing industry. The event, conceptualised in 1964 in France, is held in various member countries which are part of the Salon International de l’alimentation Group Network.
Delivering his opening remarks, the Chief Minister said that the event will give the much-needed thrust to promote food processing sector in the State and the region. Underling the significance of the upcoming event to farmers and entrepreneurs in gaining access to market linkages and value addition to products, the Chief Minister said that the event will be a catalyst for Meghalaya to emerge as a major food innovation hub in the Northeast and the country.
The event termed the ‘North East Food Show by Meghalaya and Sial’ and supported by Salon International de l’alimentation India and SIAL International is slated to be organized in December this year in Shillong.
