SHILLONG: A group of journalists from Shillong on Saturday visited Mawkynrew village with an objective to provide aid in the form of a donation to Angels’ Space School which teaches pre-primary students.

The local MLA of Mawkynrew constituency who is also the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Banteidor Lyngdoh had also helped in providing a donation of Rs. 10, 000 to the school authorities. Five years back, the school was forced to shut down as the ‘Pre-Primary’ or ‘Kindergarten’ stage is not under the preview of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), and hence the school was unable to receive financial assistance.

However because of the dedication from the parents, teachers and social workers, the school has been able to impart education to more than 40 students. The group of journalists was led by senior journalists like David Laitphlang, Joe Thangkhiew, Reigning L Mawphlang, D Banjop Mukhim.

The school has only two teachers and three helpers. The teachers of the school have appreciated the efforts of David Laitphlang who had in the past also donated a television to the school. The TV set has greatly helped the students in their learning of alphabets and other learning activities. During a small function at the school, school Headmistress W Mynsong expressed gratitude towards the journalists who have helped in collecting the donation money to the school.
