SHILLONG: A case of arson and vandalism in Police Bazaar area on Thursday sent Shillong into tizzy late this afternoon. On vehicle belonging to a prominent businessman in Lower Police Bazaar and another one was fully gutted at Jaiaw. A shop was also vandalized near Dreamland cinema besides reported cases of assault.

The miscreants fled the scene after the incident. Soon after there was panic and chaos in Police Bazaar, G.S Road Mothphran point area as people tried to scramble to reached their respective homes. Soon after the incident, Police in riot gears rushed and positioned themselves in vulnerable areas to thwart any unwanted incidents.

By 3 P.m. shops and business establishments have downed the shutter in the mentioned business hub. The unpleasant incidents on Thursday afternoon are seen as the outcome of the angst against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB). Note mentioning that many prominent organizations in the state are vehemently opposing the CAB and termed the passage of the Bill late last night as an injustice to the indigenous people of the state and the region.
