Shullai for exemption of MTCP Act from ‘administered’ areas

SHILLONG, July 1: A BJP delegation led by Sanbor Shullai, MLA South Shillong, in a meeting held with the Minister of Urban Affairs, Hamlet Dohling on June 29 requested the government for exemption of Meghalaya Town and Country Planning Act 1972 from administered areas.

The delegation also submitted a memorandum with a request to the Minister concerned to effectively take measures to exempt the Act from the ambit of the administered area.

The MLA has indicated the difficulty of the people residing within the administered area which is also a scheduled area be taken into positive consideration for the welfare and interest of all the people living in 6th Scheduled Area which falls under the administration of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) while also drawing the attention of the concerned Minister to the applicability of the United Khasi Jaintia Hills (Establishment of Town Committee) Act 1960 to regulate permission for building construction within administered area / Municipal area of Shillong city as per building bye-laws and permission from the authority of the District Council.
