SHILLONG: In a major breakthrough in the sensational Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, the Meghalaya Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Sunday recovered jewellery belonging to Sonam and the deceased from a flat in Ratlam district, Madhya Pradesh. The recovery, which also includes a laptop, pen drive, and incriminating documents, is being seen as a crucial piece of evidence as the investigation deepens.

Confirming the development, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said, “Today, in a significant development, the SIT led by SI Anthony Khongsit and SI Karan Pachua, with the assistance of officers and men from Alkapuri PS, recovered jewellery of Sonam and (L) Raja Raghuvanshi from the flat of Shilom James in Ratlam district, MP. A laptop, pen drive, and some incriminating papers were also found and seized, which is of crucial evidentiary value.”

This development follows last week’s arrest of two additional suspects, Silome James and Balvir Ahirwar, by the SIT in Madhya Pradesh for allegedly aiding Sonam Raghuvanshi after the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi.

Investigators revealed that Sonam, with James' help, had concealed jewellery and a laptop in a box in an attempt to destroy key evidence. The box was later recovered but found damaged beyond retrieval.

Based on James' confession, the SIT also recovered a country-made pistol with two magazines and two .32 calibre rounds from a stream. Further, ?50,000 in cash was seized from his Hyundai i10 car (registration number MP09WG2352), which he allegedly took from the laptop bag of another accused, Raj Kushwaha.

It may also be noted that Lokendra Singh Tomar, the landlord of the Dewas Naka flat in Gwalior where Sonam was hiding, was arrested recently by Gwalior Police at the behest of the Meghalaya SIT.

With arrests mounting and crucial evidence being unearthed, the SIT has intensified its pursuit of all links in the murder conspiracy that has shocked Meghalaya and Madhya Pradesh alike.
