South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai Inaugurates Sports Hall In East Khasi Hills

SHILLONG: Local MLA of South Shillong constituency, Sanbor Shullai on Saturday inaugurated the mini indoor sports hall at Lower Laumapring, East Khasi Hills district.

It may be mentioned that the laying of the foundation stone for construction of the sport hall was back in October 10, 2015, and the scheme to construct the hall was initiated and recommended by the MLA and total amount sanctioned for construction of the hall is Rs. 1, 48, 39, 000 crore.

This project to construct the mini indoor sports hall had been pending for the past 35 years but now finally the aspiration of Lumparing Sports Club has been realized through the steps taken by the local MLA.

The inauguration program was also attended by Chief Engineer, State Sports Council (SSC), James N.S Lakiang, President Lumapring Sport’s club, headman of Upper Lumparing HB Wahlang besides residents of the area.

Addressing the gathering at the inauguration function as Chief Guest, Shullai said, “This mini indoor sports hall is for the resident of all the people of Lumparing and through this hall I’m confident it will benefit the local youths of this area and further promote different sports activities.”

He also lauded the Chief Engineer for the smooth functioning of the construction work and completing the construction of the hall.

“This is not the only developmental activities I have initiated in the past however there will be many more for project in the constituency in the near future,” he said.

He also urged the parents to encourage their children to take up sports activities which will also benefit them as it will also bring about good health.

“This hall should only be used for sports activities however it should not be used for commercial purposes and there is a need for a collective effort to maintain this mini indoor sport hall by always keeping it clean and not misuse it,” he said.

He also pointed out that to draft a letter asking for various developmental scheme is easy however to get the scheme sanctioned is very difficult.

“My policy is to treat people equally and have good relationships with everyone right from the top level to the lower levels in the government hence my files moves very fast and reaches the desk of the Chief Minister,” he said.

During the inauguration day there was also a demonstration of Taekwondo by Hriday Rynjah along with his students, group dance, solo dance etc.
