‘State Cabinet on the Move’ meeting held in Jowai

SHILLONG: The State Cabinet held its second meeting outside of capital Shillong in Jowai, on Tuesday.

The Cabinet has decided to continue to hold “Cabinet On The Move” in other parts and districts of the State in the coming months, said Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.

The meeting dwelled on a few agendas including creation of posts for community colleges. “The government has taken a bold decision to sanction post for community/peoples colleges, which has been pending for a long time”, said Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui.

Posts were sanctioned for nine new colleges – Nongstoin College (2), Ribhoi College (3), Shanpung College (4), U Tirot Singh Memorial College, Mirang (5), Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat (6), Tura Christian College (7), Chokpot College (8), Ampati College (9) and Nongtalang College.

In the meeting, the proposal for allowing use of two wheelers as bike taxis and rules for regulating the licensing of the taxi aggregators in the State was approved.

The drafted MoU between the Tourism department and AirBnB to promote homestays in the State was discussed by the Cabinet. The Draft Meghalaya Real Estate Regulation and Development General Rules 2020 was approved.

On pending demand for the establishment of Shopping Complex at Lawmusiang, the Chief Minister informed that the project has been cleared by the Ministry of DoNER under NLCPR. However, due to changes in drawings and DPR, certain confusion has been raised by the ministry, which is being clarified by the State Government.

The Chief Minister assured that the government of Meghalaya will pursue the project with the Ministry of DoNER and in the meantime will release funds from the State for the project to roll out at the earliest.
