SHILLONG: The Khasi Student Union (KSU) president Lambokstarwell Marngar stated that the Government of Meghalaya should stop the delay tactic in implementing the first phase of entry and exit points for checking the entrance of illegal immigrants.
The KSU president made the statement during the sit in demonstration organized by 13 pro-ILP pressure groups in the city on Thursday.
Hundreds of NGOs members participated in the sit-in-demonstration at additional secretariat parking lot and many were seen carrying placards and banners.
The NGOs also demanded solution to the long-pending interstate boundary dispute with neighbouring Assam. They have also asked the High Level Committee to speed up the process of shifting the residents of Them Metor.
“We had submitted a letter last month to the Chief Minister to convene a review meeting with the 13 NGOs to brief on the status of the setting up of the entry and exit points however till date there is no response from the government hence we had to stage this protest,” he said. Pointing out that thus this is the first step, he said, “If the government remains adamant then they will resort to other forms of agitation.”
