T Vaiphei new Chairperson of Meghalaya Human Rights Commission

Shillong: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) which was established in July 2016, has now became a full-fledged commission with T Vaiphei, retired Chief Justice of Tripura High Court and the Chairperson of Assam Human Rights Commission assuming charge on February 7 as the Chairperson in the presence of acting Chairperson PJP Hanaman, Baffyndalyne Giri, member (judicial), the officials and staff of the commission.

T Vaiphei was born on March 1, 1956. He graduated in 1976 and passed his LLB in 1979 from Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. He enrolled in the Bar Council of Assam in 1980 and in 1999 he was appointed as the Additional Advocate General of Mizoram. He was elevated as Additional Judge of Guwahati High Court in 2003. Justice T Vaiphei was appointed as the Chief Justice of Tripura High Court on September 21, 2016. After his retirement in 2018, he was appointed as the Chairperson of Assam Human Rights Commission.
