Tadpoles in Supplied Water! Public Health Engineering under the Scanner Again

A REPORTER

SHILLONG: The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department has come under the scanner again as a few residents of Mission Compound have complained that small tadpoles were coming out from their water taps while they were filling up their buckets.

A person who had encountered the incident recalled that while she was filling the bucket she had gone to pick up some more buckets but when she got back there were already a few small tadpoles in the bucket.

In this connection, The Sentinel spoke to PHE Minister Samlin Malngiang who informed that the department will direct the Chief Engineer of PHE, SK Blah along with other officials of the department to conduct an immediate checking on all the water tankers in Shillong city.

“This might be because the water tankers are not clean even as the department does clean the tankers and water storage before distributing the water to the general public,” he said, adding that it is the responsibility of the department to supply clean water to the public.

On the recent trace of mobil in a water tank at 3 Mile in Upper Shillong, the Minister said that such incidents should not happen again. The culprits are yet to be arrested, he informed.

“I want to urge the Police department to take up this matter seriously and find the culprits involved in this crime and punish them as per law,” he said.
