The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) extends suspension of three MDCs

SHILLONG: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) has sent a letter to the three MDCs of the party on extension of their suspension for another one month. The suspension of the three MDCs - Mawhati MDC, James Sylliang, Nongthymmai MDC Latiplang Kharkongor and Mawthadraishan MDC Blanding Warjr i- will be effective from September 7 to October 7.

It may be mentioned that earlier, James Sylliang and Latiplang Kharkongor had spoken to The Sentinel and had revealed their intension to quit the party and Kharkongor also stated that he might contest the upcoming MDC election in 2019 as an independent candidate while both the MDCs have also termed the PDF and a one-man party.

The PDF has 11 MDCs in the 29-member House. While 8 of the MDCs are supporting the opposition People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA), 3 others support the ruling Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance (KHDA) in the KHADC.

The three MDCs were alleged of indulging in anti-party activities for going against the party direction by supporting the HS Shylla-led Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance (KHDA) in KHADC.

As per the letter sent through the PDF secretary, Auspicious Lyngdoh Mawphlang, it was informed that the meeting of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) which was held on 7 September had decided to extend the suspension of the three MDCs by another one month.

It may be mentioned that even former Chairman of the KHADC LG Nongsiej had resigned from the PDF and re-joined his former party the Hills State Peoples Democratic Party (HSPDP).
