Three feared dead in ring well digging under Umroi constituency in Meghalaya

Shillong: Three people involved in ring well digging in Lumkseh, around 25 kms from Shillong are feared dead. The trio has been identified as Banplielad Syiem, Lampher Lyngdoh and Warles Kharsyntiew of Lumkseh under Umroi constituency. Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Claudia Lyngwa confirmed to The Sentinel about the incident that took place this morning. Based on inputs, she said that the first man had gone down to the 60 feet pit to fit hume pipes and got trapped after water started gushing in the hole. Two persons went to aid the trapped man and in turn both perished in the act.

The Meghalaya fire service team reached the spot and were assisted by the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) but their efforts yielded no result till this evening. The SP said that she has already asked the Khanapara-based NDRF team to further aid in retrieving the bodies.
