Traders Sans Licence To Face Shut: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC)

SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Thursday has announced that traders without the proper trading license issued by the district council their shops will be closed down.

The Council has also informed that in the coming days an inspection of the trading license will be conducted by the Enforcement Wing of the council.

Speaking to reporters, Executive Member in-charge Trade and Elaka, Latiplang Kharkongor said, “As per the Council laws it is mandatory to renew the trading license once every year. However, there are some people who don’t come to renew their license. There are many non-tribal hawkers which are plying their trade on the roadside and I don’t even know form where have they received the trading license.”

He said that there will be no compromise because as per the regulation of the council anyone without the proper trading license, especially non-tribals their business has to be closed down.

Kharkongor informed that next week he will call a meeting with Enforcement officers of the council to start carrying out checking of trading license in various markets under the jurisdiction of the district council including Iewduh.

He also said that there are needs for a strong notification from the council concerning those people who have not yet renew their license for the past five years they will have to apply for a fresh trading license.
