Truck-Sumo collision, two dead

Shillong, May 19: Two persons died and two others were injured on Saturday morning when a Sumo collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction in West Khasi Hills district.

According to the police, the accident occurred at Umdishit Mawsawa village near Mairang, West Khasi Hills district.

The police informed that the accident occurred when one Mahindra Maxx Sumo bearing registration number ML06 3987 and driven by one Bistarding Kharsyntiew (34) of Nongum village was proceeding from Shillong to Nongum. On reaching a sharp turning at Umdishit Mawsawa, the Sumo collided with a truck bearing registration No ML 10 A 7724 driven by one Goldstarwell Nongbsap (29) of Marbisu Mawngap and coming from the opposite direction. In the accident, the driver of the Mahindra Maxx and a yet to be identified female passenger died on the spot.

The injured persons have been identified as Abdul Miya (28) of Barpeta, Tarabari, Assam and Silo Mawlong (61) of Pyrda village who were discharged after giving first aid at TSM Hospital Mairang.

The bodies of the dead were shifted to TSM Hospital Mairang for post mortem.

The driver of the truck fled the scene of the accident and is yet to be arrested. Police have registered a case under sections 279/337/338/304-A of the IPC.
