SHILLONG: On the second day of filing of nominations for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) polls, two candidates, one independent and the other from the Congress, filed their nominations. The two candidates are – Rebecca Kharmujai, daughter of former MLA/MDC of Nongkrem Constituency Dr Nongkynrih (Bah Roblin) and Oristerwell Lyngdoh Nonglait, Congress candidate from Laban- Mawprem constituency.

Speaking to reporters, Kharmujai said the reason for taking up the challenge of contesting the MDC election is to voice the problems and issues faced by the people of the constituency and the State.

She also said she wants to continue in the footsteps of her late father in trying to help and support the farming community.

“I want to uplift the youths and they, with growing unemployment, should turn to farming,” she said.

Meanwhile, Oristerwell Lyngdoh Nonglait after filing his papers for the KHADC polls, said, “I have been involved in politics for the past many years and there has been plenty of promises but nothing is being fulfilled, hence I have decided to contest the election to change this trend.”
