SHILLONG, July 19: A few days after a new alliance in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) was formed namely the Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance (KHDA) and senior politician from the National People’s Party (NPP) MDC Hispreaching Son Shylla became the new chief executive on Thursday, two MDCs filed their nomination for the position of Dy Chairman in the district council.

The two MDCs included Equator L Nongrang who is supporting the new alliance in the KHADC led by Shylla and the other is Morning Mawsor who is supporting the Peoples Democratic Alliance (PDA).

The nominations were filed at the chamber of the secretary of the district council legislative wing.

It may be reminded that earlier Morning Mawsor, who had extended support to the KHDA, was absent on the day of voting, however later he was together at a separate meeting convened by the opposition party, People’s Democratic Front (PDF).

Earlier, NPP MDC Hispreaching Son Shylla became the new chief executive member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on July 13 even as his rival, Grace Mary Kharpuri, was absent.

Teilinia Thangkhiew, the pro-tem chairperson presiding over the election, named Shylla as the CEM “since Grace Mary Kharpuri, who is a candidate, did not take part in the election”.

It may be reminded that the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Shylla on July 16 submitted the names of eight Members of District Council (MDCs) who would be part of the new Executive Committee (EC) under his leadership. The members of the EC are known as the Executive Members (EM).

Shylla who was elected to the post of CEM last week amidst drama and with the opposition going to the Court challenging his election, informed that MDCs who would be part of his EC are Neil Antonio War, Rona Khymdeit, Donkupar Sumer all of the United Democratic Party (UDP), James Sylliang, Latiplang Kharkongor and Blandingstarwell Warjri of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF, Jansing Tynsong and Victor Rani of the National People’s Party (NPP).
