Umling, Medipathar entry points to be ready soon: Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma

Meghalaya: CM Sangma assured that his government is committed to ensuring setting up entry-exit points to further strengthen the mechanism of checking influx in the state.

In the discussion led by Nongpoh legislator Mayralbon Syiem in the Assembly, Sangma announced that the registration process will start within this year for the entry point.

The state government did not stop the construction of the entry point at Umling. The work for the construction of the Facilitation Centre at Umling already started and priority is given to setting up the entry point from the beginning.

The land was identified in 2019, which seemed ideal as it was government land and was spacious to allow free movement of vehicles.

Earlier, the state government on March 13, conveyed the administrative approval and sanctioned the total estimated cost amounting to Rs 15.92 crore for construction of facilitation centre (entry point) at Umling by limiting current year expenditure to Rs 50 lakh.

However, the state government, on 29th September, based on the advice of the Empowered Sanctioning Committee, had sanctioned the administrative approval of Rs 15.92 crore for the construction of every entry point.

Apart from Umling, the CM also mentioned that the facilitation centre at Medipathar Railway Station in North Garo Hills will be completed by December, this year.
