SHILLONG: With the safety precautions and strict COVID-19 protocols in place, the Umroi Airport is ready to handle the flow of passengers.

When contacted, Airport Director, Umroi Airport, Manish Kumar Agrawal, informed that the passengers will have to follow the protocols, promulgated by Government of Meghalaya. The Director, however, informed that though the exact date of resumption of flight at Umroi Airport is not known, the officials working at the Airport are aware about the precautions and protocols, to be followed.

He informed that maximum efforts are being made at the airport to have the entire procedure running with the minimum of contact while ensuring social distancing at all places like entry, check in, security check.

He requested all passengers to follow the various directives carefully, issued from time to time by Government of India, while undertaking the air journey at this airport once it resumed. He further informed that the State government has always been supportive and providing the services of public transport and Health officials at the Airport, prior to lockdown also. Agarwal requested the same support from the State government at the airport with respect to public transport and also screening of the passengers, once the flight operation is resumed from Umroi Airport.

After a gap of two months, domestic passenger flights operations resumed from May 25 at many airports in India amidst the corona pandemic. The Government's decision came as a relief to the Aviation sector that was reeling under severe stress triggered by the lockdown that began from March 25.

States have announced their respective quarantine measures for passengers arriving at their airports. While some have decided to put passengers in mandatory institutional quarantine, others have decided to keep them in home quarantine.
