SHILLONG: Following the COVID-19 guidelines, the underprivileged and deprived children came forward to observe the 74th Independence Day of the country on Saturday.

The objective was basically to empower them with 'education' which is believed to be the key to unlock the 'Golden Door of Freedom' and ensure a 'Childhood Free from Abuse, Exploitation and Neglect'. The effort was to give them the 'Freedom to Dream'. It was also an awareness drive to empower and encourage them to fight against the prevailing COVID-19 situation, thereby giving them the strength to stand firm in spite of the everyday crisis being faced especially by these underprivileged children and their families.

The highlights of the programme were hosting of the National Flag, singing of the National Anthem, and sensitization on the essence of Independence Day and other important social and health-related issues.
