United Democratic Party Announces its Third List of Candidates in Shillong

SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) on Monday announced its third list of 9 candidates for the upcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC). The nine candidates have been selected by the sub-committee of the state election committee (SEC) of the party. The candidate includes 5 from West Jaintia Hills, 2 from Shillong city, 1 from West Kashi Hills and 1 from Ri-bhoi district.

The five candidates approved by the SEC from West Jaintia hills include M. Mullieh sitting MDC from Jowai North, D. Lyngdoh, H Khonglah, S Sumer and L Biam.

In Khasi hills it includes former MLA Paul Lyngdoh from Jaiaw constituency, S Kharlukhi from Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah constituency.

In West Jaintia Hills the party has announced the name of T. Tyrsa from Nongstoin and from Ri-bhoi Mawhati constituency K. Kharbani.

Speaking to reporters, UDP Working president Jeminio Mawthoh said, “The party has to finalize the names of two more candidates each in East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and Ri-bhoi district.”

He informed that the party has to finalize the name of 8 candidates in West Jaintia Hills and 6 candidates in East Jaintia Hills district. “The party will be completing the identification and selection process for the remaining candidates in some of the constituency in the second week of January 2019,” he said.
