SHILLONG: The felicitation committee of Mawthadraishan Constituency on Saturday felicitated local MLA H Brolding Nongsiej, MDC Jambor War and the State president of United Democratic Party (UDP) and MLA of Mairang Constituency Metbah Lyngdoh. H Brolding Nongsiej was recently inducted into the State Cabinet of the MDA government as Minister of Water Resources, Civil Defense and Home Guard; Metbah Lyngdoh is the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and Jambor War is the Executive Member of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) in-charge of Market.

Among those present in the programme chaired by HS Thabah, chairman of the felicitation Committee, included UDP general secretary Dr Jemino Mawthoh, vice president of United Democratic Party Mawthadraishan Circle WS Sohlang, and secretary of the felicitation committee Sparkling Stone Marbaniang.

“This programme is to honor the people who have voted for me and ensured that I’m their representative in the Legislative Assembly,” H Brolding Nongsiej said in his speech.

He also lauded the UDP State president and Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Metbah Lyngdoh for recommending his name for the position of Minister in the State Cabinet.

“I didn’t want to take up the portfolio of Tourism and Excise which was held by Metbah before he had resigned from his position of Minister to take up the Speaker’s post. It was because this is my first time as a Minister. Hence, I decided to take up the portfolios of Water Resources, Civil Defense and Home Guard,” he said.

The Minister also expressed the need to upgrade the Mairang Civil Sub-Division to a district. He added that such a step will speed up developmental activities in the area.

Meanwhile, Metbah Lyngdoh said that the region is blessed because there are three representatives from West Khasi Hills district who are in the ruling government and district council.

During his short speech, Jambor War expressed his gratitude towards the committee for felicitating him and two other MLAs of the party from the neighboring constituencies.
