SHILLONG, May 15: The headman of Amlanai village Thomlin Surong on Tuesday has rubbished allegations made by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) that the village dorbar has not been issuing any residential certificates to the residents of the village.

Speaking to reporters, Surong said, “In this regard I’ve given my statement to the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) on April 12, 2018, and I also have records to prove that residential certificates are being issued to the residents of the village.” He said that concerning the allegation on the improper distribution of ration to the card holders was also false.

The headman said the KSU has alleged him that residential certificates to the residents were not issued by him since 2010.

Surong said there is a need to convene a village dorbar so that the truth gets unearthed.

“We’ll also invite the KSU, SDO and the JHADC to attend the dorbar to find out the truth behind the allegations,” he said.

When asked about organizing the dorbar, he said at present a date has not been fixed to convene the village dorbar, but they will soon sit to discuss on the date and necessary action would be taken in this regard.

“The people of Amlanai village need to know whether the allegations labelled against is true or false and this can be done through discussion in the dorbar,” he said.
