Villagers again attacked along Bangladesh border

SHILLONG: In yet another incident of cross-border crime, two persons were allegedly attacked by a group of five suspected Bangladeshis on Sunday afternoon.

According to police, the incident occurred at Pyrkan village under Shella constituency along the Indo-Bangladesh border in East Khasi Hills district at around 2:30 pm. As per preliminary reports, the suspected Bangladeshi nationals had entered the Indian territory near the Shella River and attacked the duo with sharp weapons. The two vicitms have been identified as Denglang Diengdoh (19) and Harikanto Sargari (21). Diengdoh suffered injuries on his head and back. Meanwhile Sargari suffered minor injuries on his person. After the victims were rushed to the Ichamati Primary Health Centre, Diengdoh was shifted to the Shillong Civil hospital.

This year there has been a number of attacks on Meghalaya citizens living along Indo-Bangladesh border. On the intervening night of January 3-4, five Indian villagers were attacked near Lad Darrang in West Jaiñtia hills on the Dawki-Amlarem road. That same month, a BSF personnel and a villager were seriously injured in a similar incident at the Amdoh village near Rongkum, in West Jaiñtia hills. In another incident, a resident of Nongtalang village went missing from his home on February 2. He was later found with cut wounds all over his body.
