West Khasi Hills: Malangkona police outpost closed down after detection of COVID-19 case

Guwahati: Amid the ongoing surge in COVID-19 cases in Meghalaya, the Malangkona police outpost in West Khasi Hills district was temporarily closed down after a police official was tested positive for the contagion on Wednesday, August 27.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (A), GK Iangrai informed that around 72 police officials at the outpost were tested by rapid antigen test (RAT) as a part of the government's push to isolate the virus by ramping up random testings. A single official tested positive during a random test conducted by the medical team from Riangdo PHC at Malangkona village, he said.

On being tested positive, the police personnel was immediately placed under medical observation and the other officials of Malangkona outpost have also been placed under mandatory quarantine, Iangrai further informed.

As a precautionary and preventive measure, the AIGP informed that the Malangkona outpost has been temporarily closed with immediate effect and necessary protocols are being observed in disinfecting the outpost premises so that activities can resume.

Iangrai also requested the general public residing within the jurisdiction of the Malangkona outpost to approach Aradonga outpost for necessary assistance and for official works, until the Malangkona outpost has been declared as fit for re-occupation.

It is to be noted that the total active cases in the state of Meghalaya stood at 1,168 on Wednesday after forty-nine more persons have tested positive for COVID-19.  

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said 32, including 23 high-risk contacts, 2 influenza-like illness (ILI) cases, 2 Armed Forces/Paramilitary Forces (AF/PF), 1 severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) case, a returnee, a health worker at the MATI Corona care centre, Mawdiangdiang, 1 Anjalee random sampling test, and a low-risk contact, tested positive in the worst-hit East Khasi Hills district.
